It is time for Life to be stewarded by the wisdom of the people, in a gLocal connection. Gaia Commons offers the systemes, knowledge, tools, spaces and funding opportunites to empower The Commons as ‘Love Organized’…
Gaia Commons is a Global Community & Movement pioneering a radical collaboration network dedicated to fostering holistic planetary well-being through a unique framework for true regenerative governance & economics.
It is network of beings who are aligned with a specific vision and agree to avoid redundancies, and unnecessary or inappropriate use of energy, time and resources, by radically collaborating in producing and stewardshiping.
They contribute some kind of capital (such as time, goods or money) to the shared basket of abundance; all these goods and assets are Common Property of Gaia as a whole; and they share a system of governance, CO3
COordination, COllaboration & COmmunication.
Context
All over the planet there are and are emerging projects and initiatives with a common purpose, Regeneration and Taking Care of All Life, yet they are disconnected from each other by distance and diversity of ideas, brands and cultural factors. The digital technologies we now have to connect in networks have resulted in an excess of information that makes it difficult to communicate and connect effectively.
Many people and projects want to feel part of a global community of co-habitants and caretakers of Gaia, but so far we have not found a way to connect efficiently. On the other hand, most organizations need to put all their energy into their own projects, which makes it difficult for them to dedicate themselves to creating the network, or even, many redundant attempts are being made without building something robust and efficient.
What does Gaia Commons do?
Gaia Commons aims to create in a holistic and integral way that great planetary community of Guardians ReGenerators of the Earth and Caretakers of all Life as a whole, a vision we call Gaia Union. For its part, Gaia Commons functions as a living laboratory that incubates and supports the whole processes.
Through Gaia Commons we want to connect projects, people and organizations in general, and facilitate the flow of information and resources between them, through a set of tools that allow us to strengthen and evolve this great Gaia Community.
It is based on common ownership, stewardship and distribution of resources enabling efficient purpose directed collaboration leveraging collective intelligence. A comprehensive, integrative system inspired by Nature connects global and local networks, communities and organizations(gLocal).
Gaia Commons’ mission is: “To offer a framework and a set of tools that enable efficient and effective coordination, collaboration and communication (CO3) between initiatives, networks and allied people”.
These transversal axes, in greater detail, are:
Coordination through the Distributed and Dynamic Governance of Gaia Commons.
This is a holonomically distributed governance system, which allows harnessing collective intelligence for decision making, fair allocation and efficient utilization of resources, capital and all kinds of values. (It can be equated to the activity carried out by the brain, mind and nervous system of the organism).
Collaboration, through the Gaia Commons Economy
An abundant flow of values and resources, which allows actors to manage, share and exchange goods and services in an efficient, transparent, fair and sovereign way, taking advantage of the multiplying and catalyzing effects of the network (equivalent to the circulatory system).
Communication and connection through the Gaia Commons Digital Ecosystem.
Databases and platforms of and for all people, projects and knowledge, leveraging cutting-edge technology (AI or Artificial Intelligence) and transformative human agents (OI / Organic Intelligence) to guide people to the most relevant, up-to-date and reliable information.
Which then allows anyone to easily and efficiently integrate and connect to the network in digital and physical spaces. (Equivalent to the Nervous System).
Gaia Commons and its pillars
Ancient and recent wisdoms have inspired us to create a model of shared properties and goods, among which are the land and its fruits (resources of all kinds, as are all resources: raw materials, materials and transformed objects, finished products and even all kinds of intangible goods such as knowledge and technology.
We know that, in essence, the land does not belong to anyone; we are part of it. In the historical roots of indigenous communities, land was considered a collective gift, with agreed territorial limits and within which it was used communally, without being the property of a single person, family or tribe.
The concept of Common Land Trusts (CLT or Commons Land Trusts, either through Foundations or Commons-type Associations), offers a practical way of taking land out of the speculative market and placing it in a trust system, seeking that it be cared for collaboratively for the common good. In this, the tenants, whether individuals or organizations, own the buildings and other land improvements created with their labor and investment, but not the land itself, which is held in perpetuity on behalf of the local community.
Gaia Commons embodies a return to the spirit that lies at the roots of the Community Land Trust movement and evolves it by creating tools to reclaim, protect and regenerate the land, managing it sustainably for future generations through holistic integrated design plans based on permaculture, alternative energy, natural building, among other disciplines.
Gaia Commons is the result of more than ten years of gestation. During this time many minds and hearts from all areas of life, knowledge, being and doing, have been at the service of designing this structure that can contribute to the great change we want in society.
Indigenous grandparents, university professors, specialists in new social and digital technologies, permaculturists, ecohabitat designers, community catalysts, economists, educators, lawyers, urban planners and architects, among others, have actively participated in this process.
2. Generating a ReGenerative AlterNative Economic System
The Solidarity Economy movement, ReFi (Regenerative Finance) and Web3 (which includes cryptocurrencies and distributed ledger technologies, such as blockchain) to which we are connected, gives access to collective wealth and innovative financing of public goods. In this way, Gaia Commons can access the resources needed to reclaim and protect the commons, regenerating communities and landscapes on a local and global scale (gLocal).
Gaia Commons implemented a Multi-Currency System (tokens and NFTs) inspired by regenerative economies, which is outside the speculative market and gives value to people, projects and fertile land. A currency that allows exchanges between members of the Gaia Commons community anywhere on the planet.
Which facilitates and favors transactions within the community, allowing us to gradually need less conventional currencies, as we can respond to the needs of our community of people and projects committed to the care of Gaia. This gives value to the abundance that we create as a community.
In addition, through the Gaia Commons Hub, resources and money will be channeled, since having a well-articulated planetary alliance structure makes it easier to be recipients of donations and investments that seek to generate a differential impact on the course of history.
3. Dynamic Governance and Collective Participation
Gaia Commons has its own governance model, which ensures transparency, distributed governance and efficient collective decision-making that integrates and values diverse voices, visions, perspectives and ways. It is organized in a distributed manner based on a coordinating team and multiple Spheres and Holons for the various areas of development, both operational and thematic. Spheres or Holons are entities or groups of people involved in a collaborative activity within a larger community. Each holon is autonomous yet interdependent with other holons, serving together the realization of Gaia’s purpose. The Spheres are the union of several holons.
To address the apparent paradox of creating a global-scale organization that can effectively manage local resources and foster local decision-making, the essence of Bioregionalism has been incorporated into the organizational structure. Or what is known as a local approach from a global vision – gLocal. Gaia Commons is the global digital layer that interweaves the various local nodes with the Gaia Commons governance model. This enables global participation while supporting the emergence of new bioregional Hubs/Nodes that will form as people join.
Participation Dynamics and InterDependent CoLaborAction
Having a clearly established common purpose, the Open Work Protocol basically consists of proposing or CoWorking in Work Groups (with well-defined objectives and indicators for measuring success or progress) aligned with our common purpose, voting for them, and exposing them publicly so that anyone can propose concrete Activities, Roles, Holons or Projects to advance the already agreed objectives. Obviously, these must be publicly socialized in a way that facilitates the participation of the other members, to advance the purposes.
For this collaborative dynamic, it is necessary to have an Ecosystem of Platforms, This means: creating a digital backbone integrated and articulated by several software & platforms, which allows the proper functioning and communication of the planetary community. It would include a social network; a map and directory of projects; marketplace for the exchange of goods and services, platforms for governance and decision making and coordination of the various projects and working groups, so that they can generate their own spaces, dynamics, resources and forms of registration and documentation. As well as a public library of knowledge and multimedia content in general, with forums and functions for educational processes, among other tools.
